Professional Engagement
I am always motivated to improve and enhance my own professional knowledge and practice through professional engagement.
I am aware of my own strengths and can identify areas of weakness that need to be refined, through reflection processes in order to be a successful member of the teaching profession.
VIT-Professional Engagement 7; Teachers reflect on, evaluate and improve their professional knowledge and practice
7.2- Be aware of their own strengths, preferences and needs as a learner, and can identify areas for development as a emerging practitioner and member of the profession.
I have participated in various Professional Development sessions, which were deliberately chosen based on an evaluation of my own weaknesses, demonstrating my willingness to commit to continually broadening my professional learning.
I have been involved in:
Fusion Theatre- 27 August 2012
Actors with intellectual disabilities are leaders in educating teachers of tomorrow about students with special needs.
It is important that I as a teacher consider that students with disabilties can make successful contributions to the classroom and can teach their peers empathy and teamwork to achieve shared goals.

Yarra Valley VCE Networking -9th August 2012
This program is part of the Yarra Ranges & Yarra Valley VCE Network
commitment to improving VCE achievements through increased teacher capacity and by enhancing student’s opportunities to succeed.
This event was held at Yarra Hills, where I talked to established teachers about VCE Visual Arts including assessment, SAC's, ranking and exam preparation.
This session really informed me about all the effort that goes into teaching a VCE subject to ensure students can reach their goals after secondary education.

Mind Matters- 30th July 2012
Presented by Andrew Fuller at Mooroolbark College. Session discussed brain based learning and effective learning strategies for teachers to increase academic outcomes.
I gained valuable resources about teaching effectively using the GET IT! Model of learning to increase student learning. I always need to remember to present information and activities in a variety of ways to engage my audience.
This was an activity completed in the session, highlighting areas of strengths and weaknesses to reflect on our own learning preferences.
This is similar to Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelliegences.

Learning Environment
This session highlighted the need to create an effective learning environment through building positive peer relationships based on valuing opinions and respect.
This is an aspect I will always aspire my classroom to look, feel and sound like, as stated in my Y chart.
Deakin Organised Events- During Trimester 1 2012
One of the most important aspects I have learnt throughout my degree and during rounds, is sharing resources and information with your colleagues. Collaborating with other professionals broadens perspectives and ideas which can only enhance your own professional practices and therefore, establishes your own reputation.
Parent Teacher Interviews - 26 April 2012
This was an extremely valuable experience, providing me with preparation skills for when I conduct my own Parent Teacher Interviews in the future.
Parents have a significant impact on their childs education and building relationships and communicating with parents is important to assist in supporting academic, social and emotional wellbeing.
