VELS Curriculum
'Lessons are planned to incorporate both the standards and the school curriculum’- Jenny Roberts, Mooroolbark College 2012.
I have acquired a detailed knowledge of VELS and use these standards as a guide to frame my lessons from year 7-10 in both Visual Arts and Humanities.
I firmly consider the knowledge and skills students acquire within my disciplinary areas as vital to developing citizens who are capable of contributing to a 21st century society.

Reflection
My experience with VELS curriculum applicable to my disciplinary areas has set the foundations for my planning of units and sequences of lessons. In relation to this, even though I personally find the content extremely interesting and engaging I understand not all students will share this passion. It is up to me to deliver the content in a variety of ways that gauge curiosity and stimulate students to want to learn. I am educating students for the future and I do believe in the importance of the skills students learn throughout visual arts, humanities and integrated learning areas. This enables students to be successful contributors to society, even if they do not appreciate the subjects or activities at the time. It is up to me to make students aware of the relevance particular tasks have in their life.
