Information and Communication Technology
‘Excellent use of ICT! iPad class necessitates the use of technology in the classroom, well done!’- Jenny Roberts, Mooroolbark College, 2012.
I am interested in investigating new technologies that are relevant to the curriculum and engage and motivate students within an educational context. I believe ICT is only worthwhile if it facilitates meaningful learning in an educational context.
ICT programs that I am familiar with, have utilsed and can potentially see myself incorporating throughout my teaching to facilitate learning and assessment as an educational resource include:
Google Docs
This is a simple resource particularly useful for teachers, where I have created a pre and post quiz on Geography for year 7 students. The link can be emailed to students, which can be accessed and uploaded with instant results. Assessment for and of learning is immediate and can be compared to demonstrate progression and reported to important stakeholders such parents and principals.

VIT- Professional Practice 6; Teachers use a range of teaching practices and resources to engage students in effective learning
6.5- Access and use a range of teaching and learning resources and technologies to support student learning.
iPads
I regularly utilised iPads in my year 7 History and Geography classes. Students compared a noble and farmer family story as demonstrated already. iPads are a great resource for accessing and researching information, however I am concerned that students are unable to create a word docoument and print from iPads, which in my experience was a real problem.
Edublogs
I am familiar with blogs and have created my own blog based on a reflection of learning and teaching with ICT. I am confident that I could incorporate such a resource in Visual Arts, where students can have their own space to respond to art analysis questions. Blogs can be kept as a resource that can be constantly altered and referred to throughout a unit and easily accessed by the teacher.

Edmodo
As already stated, I have successfully used Edmodo to engage students in responding to different formats of information that can be uploaded onto the website such as youtube videos and weblinks. This is a great resource to create a virtual library and reflects social networking characteristics which are embedded into an educational context to facilitate meaningful learning.
Stop Motion Animation
I worked in a group to create our own stop motion animation that integrated two disciplinary areas- Media and Psychology. As a task it also builds students interpersonal development and cooperative learning skills. I am confident in teaching the processes required to create a stop motion animation and can see myself involved in developing programs or units on this area to engage learners. Enjoy!
VIT- Professional Practice 4; Teachers plan and assess for effective learning
4.2- Design lesson and unit plans which integrate a range of activities, resources, and materials to support learning, including the use of ICT and other learning technologies.
POLT- Students learning needs, backgrounds, perspectives and interests are reflected in the learning program
3.4- Capitalises on students experience of a technology rich world.
Learning connects strongly with communities and practice beyond the
classroom
6.3- Uses technologies in ways that reflect professional and community practices.
