Collaborative Partnerships
'Kayla participated in a wide range of school activites including excursions, professional development and school community projects'- Sarah Hardy, Lilydale High School, 2010.
I have taken every opportunity to demonstrate both my leadership and teamwork skills, to showcase my competency as a person, employee and professional. I always ensure that I present myself as approachable and am prepared to contribute, listen and make suggestions in a positive manner. My experiences outside the classroom and skills I have procured while teaching will and have enabled me to establish proactive partnerships.
In a school environment I am always motivated to assist colleagues in a variety of areas as a member of a school team. I have been involved in:
Athletics Carnivals
I participated in the annual Athletics Carnival at Mooroolbark College and thouroughly enjoyed building relationships with staff and students outside the classroom. I was responsible for Record keeping, student organisation, scheduling and data entry. I was commended for my attitude and contribution on the day.
VIT- Professional Engagement 8; Teachers are active member of the profession
8.1- Be aware of the ways teachers typically engage with their profession, and demonstrate a capacity to do so themselves.
(Mooroolbark Secondary College 2012)
‘Your work ethic, effort, organisation and genuine interest at the Athletics Carnival was a valuable asset’ -Keith Clapp: Head KLA of Health and Physical Education, Mooroolbark
College, 2012.
Mosaic Mural
I was part of a team who worked with Mosaic Mandala Artist, Karen Scott. We created a mosaic mural which represented the experience of regeneration of students, staff and their environment, following the bushfires of 2010. I worked with students from year 7-12, staff and the wider community. I played a role in coordinating students, delegating tasks, placing tiles on the wall and glazing featured ceramics.

8.2- Demonstrate a capacity to contribute to a professional learning community, in a wider school
and in the wider community.
(Scott, K n.d.,)
I really enjoyed being part of a team who created an inspirational artwork.
Sharing Resources
I am regularly asked to share my resources with other staff members and view this as c personal compliment. I believe sharing resources is one of the great benefits of being part of a wider community sector that aims to achieve the same goal, educating students using the best resources available. Resources can always be adapted and refined according to classroom needs and this is where teachers can make the resource their own.
'Kayla is willing to share resources with staff'- Karen Ellis, Mooroolbark College, 2012.
My attitude, independence and support are always greatly appreciated, earning respect from my colleagues. This has greatly influenced my self confidence as a professional.
Self Employed Business
I am currently self employed and manage my own successful domestic and commercial cleaning business. I take an extreme pride in this achievement and acknowledge that the demands of my position rely on constantly presenting a repertoire of certain skills, particularly communication. I have complete confidence in my ability to transfer these customer service skills into the teaching profession as they are a reflection of my work ethic.
I consider these skills that I have gained through my employment experience, as pertinent to establishing constructive relationships with students, parents and colleagues. These include:
- Word processing invoices and emails
- Communication etiquette
- Time management to meet targets
- Punctuality to convey commitment
- Reliability to assert reputation
- Initiative to solve problems
- Approachability to influence open communication
